Born in California in 1913, Richard M. Nixon was the 37th President of the United States and the 36th Vice President of the United States. Nixon is most known as the only President in history to resign from office. This was due to the Watergate Scandal. Nixon had ran for President before, but lost the election to John F. Kennedy in 1960. And in 1968, he had won the Presidential election.
Richard Nixon winning the presidency is obviously a political category. Why? Well, anyone that holds a governmental position is considered a politician. Nixon becoming President and also a past senator is a political position.
Richard Nixon had won the election but, by only a small number of votes. He defeated the Vice President Humphrey and another third-party candidate. Another significant thing about Nixon's election was the Vietnam War and the Cold War. Nixon said in his campaign that he wanted to end both wars in a peaceful way.
Richard Nixon's election had a major impact on our society. The most notable one is that our military would grow. This was due to the wars that the U.S. was fighting at the time. Our country's protection and safety was very important to Nixon during the Cold War.
