My preperation month
This month, a few things were very important preparing for my
practical placement.
I was reseaching what could be important regarding the culture and the
difficulties that I could encounter. Other things that were important for my
preperation were for example packing and making sure my living arrangements were in order. As well as my working documents (in Spain NIE)
SEPT
My first month
The first month, adjusting to all the new things encountering in the placement country. Some might call this stage the "honeymoon" phase. The difficulties I encountered the first month were mainly language barriers and adjusting to the work and long hours. Being in the honeymoon phase, the start of my internship is mainly exploring new things and furthermore, didn't behold a lot of challenges .
OKT
The second month
I am noticing more difficulties regarding the culture differences of my placement country. At the end of the second month I am noticing my motivation decreasing, and being tired after having to adjust to the working hours. It not being half way yet, is a bit demotivating and at work I still do not feel so comfortable in the day to day work.
NOV
I am halfway !
This month the half way point of my internship is reached. This period the challenges of my internship contain mainly excists from noticing the different managment styles within a new culture. Understanding the work more I see thing I would do differently having another culture. I notice some conflict with colleagues and wanting to achieve more in my internship from now on. It is quite hard to keep as motivated when no new challenges are ppresented.
DEC
Month number 4
Being homesick is something that I can experience in this phase. I am noticing an easier comtact level with locals and colleagues due to my improvement in Spanish skills. I really feel comfortable at work but I don't feel like it is challenging me enough anymore. Improving on my learning goals of the second half of my placement is a challenge, but keeping up with the learning yournals helps.
JAN
The final month.
Getting into my final part of internship home is coming closer and at this time the challenge is to say goodbye. I felt the time was good to finish work but it is hard to leave the people I have met because at this time it feels a little like home. It is good to look back and I think I have achieved a lot of the goals that I set for myself. Regarding work keeping motivated could be challenging but creating new challenges for yourself everyday is something that helps achieving this.
