Bataan death March information

"After the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, they invaded Luzon, Philippines in January 1942. Despite insufficient supplies, American and Filipino troops were able to fight for three months." They surrendered to japanese troops and were forced to the Bataan death march where japan committed horrific war crimes to the american and filipino soldiers.

Three months after the start of the Death march, the March forced 60,000-80,000 filipino and american prisoners of war to march through the filapines."The route was about 65 miles long and stretched from the peninsula to the railhead inland"

The prisoners of war were forced to march through tropical conditions, enduring heat, humidity, and rain without adequate medical care.

The prisoners had to sleep in in harsh conditions of the philapines, suffered from starvation and if unable to make it through the whole march they were killed and sometimes be headed. The filapino troops were also treated more unfair than the US troops.

Once Japan occupied the Philippines, they basically granted them independence from the US in 1943. This promise was not followed through with the Japanese continuing to engage in harsh actions "trying to round up and arrest Filipino insurgents. This led to innocent civilians, including women and children, being exposed to harsh treatment by the Japanese."

"The 1st US Cavalry arrives in Manila on February 3, 1945, liberating allied prisoners of war. " With this the japanese surrendered because "bravery and courage, were instrumental in the Japanese surrender on September 2, 1945."
