This is a short version of the character comparison just to demonstrate the basic ideas. This would get a terrible grade. Make yours better.
This is a comparison of Zelie and Amari, the two most important characters in CoBaB. I'm comparing them for so many reasons, but mostly because they are the best.
Here's my explanation of why this is a useful point of comparison for this assignment. Obviously this is a great choice, but I'm going to make sure that everyone who sees this knows why. I'm picking something specific within this category, such as how these characters react to problems.
Check out this cool image, it's fanart for the book. It's related to what I'm doing, that's why I know it's a good choice.
Check out that drip!
This is a great thing to compare. It's specific, both characters show it in a unique way, and it demonstrates a deeper understanding of who they are.
Everyone knows Zelie loves fish. Fish probably give strength or something. Maybe they make her angry too, that would explain a lot.
This one might be a bit too detailed, because I need to connect this to conflicts throughout the story to demonstrate character growth. I'm going to try it out anyway.
Amari probably likes rice. Rice with no seasoning. Rice with nothing else. Because she's basic.
Look at me, I'm magic!
Here's a description of the conflict including the reason I'm including it. This is the beginning of the journey, the first connection between the main characters, and sets us up to be able to see the contrast between them. Amari has the scroll, Zelie saves her, Inan chases. So much going on, very important.

I'm going to write about both characters' personalities here. Zelie is so mad, always. Amari is scared, also always. How do we know? Because of the evidence from the annotation assignment that would go here. Then I would analyze it, showing how this conflict really demonstrates these traits in the characters.
Fashion matters. Look at how Zelie and Amari are dressed in this conflict. This is totally accurate. The fishing clothes demonstrate Zelie's focus on utility. Image only hurts her, so she cares about action. Contrast that with Amari. I mean, just look at her. Lights in a dress? She's obviously never touched grass. This is highlighted in this conflict as this is when their two worlds collide. They are in the market where the poor sell to the rich, where the differences between them are visually obvious. This represents who they are at this stage in the story.
Look at how this fish contrasts with the rice. So much more flavor. So spicy. Does spice symbolize her anger? I bet it does. Here's more evidence from the annotation assignment about the fish selling, look at Zelie make fun of that rich guy. Definitely shows who she is as a person when she meets Amari.
Rice is great and all, but not when it's by itself. It gets old so fast. Luckily, Amari gets to meet Zelie here. The rice symbolizes her lack of personality, past achievement, and really anything interesting in her life. When she meets Zelie this is brought to the forefront. It really makes her question who she is.
Here's a description of this conflict too, also including the reason I'm using it. They face more loss, they learn the importance of what they are doing, they see Amari's dad's girlfriend kill their new friend. Very important scene. I can use this, in combination with my points of comparison, to create a comparative analysis of the two characters I picked.
Zelie's anger is starting to go away thanks to Lekan. She found someone else who shares her pain, or maybe even suffered more. But he's helping her. See how this conflict is making her change? How her character is undergoing development? She still reacts to issues here with anger, but she's already not quite the same person she was.
Now Amari on the other hand... she's still afraid. But now she's also sad. This is definitely development as well, but not positive development like Zelie has. I'd put evidence here from the annotation assignment if I had done it (good thing you did!). This is a great conflict to show the reactions the characters have, and how conflict really drives them forward in the story.
Here is Zelie's brain melting. Thanks, Lekan!
Since we're talking about Zelie's hair and a lack of change in her character at the moment, I guess I'll discuss Amari and selling her fancy headdress thing. Nice, she's learning what's important. Unlike Zelie, that's character change. Selling that enabled them to get here. Nice work, Amari.
Can you believe that Lekan makes fun of Zelie's hair? No, really. Check it out. He's pretty sad that her hair is straight. Obviously should have gone to a stylist. Her hair actually does change throughout the story though, so this might not be the worst choice of details. She is still figuring out who she is and attempting to reject the call, but Lekan says no way.
Ok, they don't really eat here, but Zelie is out of her depth like a fish out of water... get it? Totally nailed that one.
We're doing a few things combined in this assignment, but this is generally organized point by point within the conflicts.
I think you don't need more examples, so just remember to be focused with your points of comparison and connect them to the conflicts that are happening. These scenes should be used to demonstrate the character development, allowing you to compare/contrast the two characters you chose.
