LEMURS

LEMURS

Lemurs have become popular due to their presence in animated films like "Madagascar" or "All Hail King Julien".

From Latin "lemurs" means ghosts or spirits.

Lemurs are divided mammals into 8 families, make up of 15 types and around 100 existing species. They live only on the island of Madagascar . Most existing lemurs are small, and have a pointed snout, large eyes and a long tail. They mostly live on trees , and they are active at night.

EUcAYPTUS

EUCALYPTUS

Most species of Eucalyptus are native in Australia. Every state and territory have representative species.

About three-quarters of Australian forests are eucalyptus forests.

Fires are common in Australia, but many eucalyptus species are adapted to fire and they can survive through it.

But eucalyptus occur not only in Australia, but also in Indonesia and other Pacific Islands.

PANDAS

PANDA

The giant panda also known as panda bear or simply panda, is a type of a bear, native in South-Central China. We can easily recognized them by the large, black patches around its eyes, over the ears, and across the body.

The giant panda lives in a few mountain ranges in central China, mainly in Sichuan, but also in neighbouring Shaanxi and Gansu. As a result of farming, deforestation and other causes panda has been driven out of the areas where it used to live.

The dragon has often considered as China's national symbol, but now the giant panda takes its place.

BAOBAB

Baobabs occur in Madagascar, some places of Africa, Arabia and Australia.

In the early 21st century baobabs in South Africa began to die out from a cause that is still unknown. Scientists believe it is unlikely that vermin were able to kill so many trees so rapidly, so some of them speculate that the die out was a result of global warming.

Baobabs reach heights of 5 to 30 m and have trunk diameters of 7 to 11 m.

The Panke baobab in Zimbabwe was over 2,450 years old when it died in 2011, making it the oldest tree ever documented.

Two other trees are Dorslandboom in Namibia and Glencoe in South Africa. They were over 2,000 years old. Another known as Grootboom was dated and found to be at least 1275 years old. Climate change, and global warming are causes of reducing baobab life span.

BAOBAB

KOALA

The koalas live in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia.

They are so easy to recognize by its grey body, large head with fluffy ears and large nose. The koala is 60–85 cm length and weights 4–15 kg

Koalas are asocial animals and spend just 15 minutes of a day on social behaviors.

They usually eat and sleep on the same tree, possibly for a whole day.
