AMBAR

CHARKHA

INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

  • ‘Ambar Charkha’ is a machine for making yarn out of cotton sliver without using any power except that from the human body.

  • The existing upgraded Ambar Charkha reduces drudgery because of the leg drive.

  • We saw development potential to further reduce drudgery, increase productivity and increase ergonomic features.

PROBLEMS

The main problems which we have focused on, in the current design are :

PROBLEMS

THREAD BREAKAGE

VIBRATIONS & THREAD BREAKAGE

  • Major cause of mid-operation breakage of a produced thread.

  • The machine is stopped each time a thread breaks. Then restarting the machine requires more force.

  • Stopping the machine every time adds to the downtime of the machine , thus reducing productivity.

SPEED CONTROL

SPEED CONTROL

  • Not full utilization of leg power

  • One cannot change the pedalling rate for same production speed

SOLUTIONS

  • Here are some of the solutions in accordance with the previously mentioned problems along with a mechanism to ease the drive even more.

SOLUTIONS

Isolated stoppage of

individual spindles

An individual spindle can be stopped by disengaging the pulley thread by transferring it to the fitted embodiment, which will keep on rotating the pulley thread but won’t rotate the spindle.

Design

BENEFITS

SPINDLE STOPPER

  • Thread reattachment while working

Ball bearing

  • Reduces the initiating force requirement

Base cap

  • Retrofittable

Mechanism for

increasing the speed

  • Introduction of a large size pulley at the bottom, directly powered by the pedal. The pulley will drive a smaller pulley at the top which will rotate at a greater rpm than before

BETTER LEG-DRIVE

DESIGN

BENEFITS

Drive wheel

  • Increase operating speed

Drive belt

  • Vibration reduction
  • Pedaling customization

Stepped Pulleys

DESIGN

Integrated

hand drive

Two ropes will be attached to either side of the leg driven pedal, which will extend above passing through individual pulleys and will come to the front where the user can pull them alternatively, synchronizing with leg power

HAND DRIVE

DESIGN

BENEFITS

  • Drive can be complemented by Hand

Pulleys

Ropes

  • Legs can be rested in long working hours
