The purpose of Yolanda Giovanni's speech was to build up the Virginia Tech students and faculty after the devastating shooting.

The audience is the students, staff, and victims of the Virginia Tech shooting.

Giovanni uses Ethos to build up the audience to make them stronger. She does this by incorporating several rhetorical strategies.

Effect

Overall the speech had a very strong effect due to the standing ovation by the crowd after Giovanni was done speaking. Today it has become a very famous speech and it will never be forgotten.
