Nursing care of Neonates with UVC/UAC
Objectives:
Agenda
1- Define UVC and UAC
2-Describe the indication and poistion of UVC & UAC.
3-Expore the procedure & placements of UVC & UAC
4- Recognize the complication and contra-inications
6-Identify Nursing resposibillities in the care ofneonates with UVC/UAC
Umbalical Cathetarization:
Is a catheter that is inserted into one of the two arteries or the vein of the umbilical cord. Generally the UAC/UVC is used in Neonatal Intensive Care Units as it provides quick access to the central circulation of premature infants.
What is?
Umbalical Vein Cathetarization:
An umbilical venous catheter passes through the umbilicus, umbilical vein, left portal vein, ductus venosus, middle or left hepatic vein, and into the inferior vena cava.
An umbilical venous catheter (UVC) allows fluids and medicines to be given without frequently replacing an intravenous (IV) line.
UVC
Indication
Indication:
* Emergency Vasculer Access
* Centeral Venous Access
-TPN
-IV Medications (Inotropics, sedation,Hypertonic solusion such as Dextrose 15% & 20% for resistance hypoglycemia.
*Exchange transfusion
*The preferred catheter tip placement is in the inferior vena cava above the level of the diaphragm (between T8 and T9) - that is, above the liver.
*The position must be confirmed by x-ray prior to securing the line & usage.

Umbalical Artery Cathetarazition
UAC
The umbilical artery catheter (UAC) is placed in one of the arteries in the cord.
Indication:
*Montoring neonates BP
*Frequent Blood sampling
Normal UAC high [T7-T10] or low [L3-L5].
