Spanish Hierarchy

Spanish Hierarchy

The Spanish Social Structure is very similar to the European Social Structure, but they didn't base who had more power by Royal Status they based it on how much Spanish blood you have and if you were born in either Spain or The Americas, If you were only half Spanish you had less power and if you had no Spanish Blood you had even less power, If you were a prisoner you had no power. There were still Kings and Queen who were born in Spain and had pure Spanish blood.

Woman´s clothing

The foundation of women's clothing was smock, shift, and chemise which was made by linen. After, women would wear a petticoat. Which could be a joined bodice and the skirt, or just the skirt. On top of the petticoat, women would wear a gown. The upper robe worn over the petticoat and chemise was often very voluminous with ample skirt. Its sleeves often had a large opening at the wrists. Women often took an hour to dress up.

Men´s clothing

or the first layer of men´s clothing, a man would put on a shirt or chemise made up of linen which was an often ornamented neckband. Doublets were collarless, cut square and low. Sleeves were often a finer fabric than the body because they were more visible while wearing a gown. Gowns worn over doublets were broad shoulder and loose, open down the front, with a turned back large collar that broadened over the shoulders. Legs were covered in hose ending at the knee, with the two legs joined by a codpiece, netherhose or stockings were worn below supported by graters.

Art and Architecture

Art and Architecture

The Renaissance art and architecture in Spain, (1474-1516), was called plateresque. Plateresque means “in the manner of silversmith”, plata being silver in Spanish. The Palace of the Countess of Lebrija is a famous piece of architecture that was built in the 15th century and rebuilt in the 16th century. The Spanish crushed other religions with their architecture. That is, they built churches ontop of other religion's sacred grounds. The work of Castilian painters show heavy Flemish (Belgarian) influence. In other places Italian influence could also be found. Some people painted in a style called tenebrism. Tenebrism is characterised by the contrasts of light and dark. Some people that used tenebrism are: Diego Velázquez, Francisco de Zurbarán, and Bartolomé Murillo.

There were also some sculptures: Juan Martinez Montañés, Alonso Cano, Pedro de Mena, Francisco Salzillo. The Palace of the Countess of Lebrija is a famous piece of architecture that was built in the 15th century and rebuilt in the 16th century.
