Song Analysis by Matt Pineda
Known as Abel Tesfaye, he is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer. In 2010, he uploaded several songs on YouTube an released the mix tapes House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence. He is known for his dark style of R&B, often talking about substance abuse, sexual relations, or nightly affairs such as partying.
One of the main reasons The Weeknd became so popular was because of Drake, being a known affiliate of his. He later re-released his mix tapes as a single compilation album titled Trilogy in 2012. In 2013, he put out his debut album Kiss Land and followed up with Beauty Behind the Madness in 2015. He immediately blew up with the songs Often, Can't Feel My Face, and The Hills. In 2016, he released his album Starboy, with hit songs Starboy, and I Feel it Coming. In 2018 he dropped an EP titled My Dear Melancholy, and in March 2020, he dropped his fourth album After Hours. He has won three Grammys.
The song Missed You is fairly new. The song dropped along with two others, Nothing Compares and Final Lullaby on March 30, 2020, the two year anniversary of My Dear Melancholy. It was featured on the deluxe edition of his new album After Hours. The song itself is a very melancholy and reflective track from Abel, with him coming to terms that he still has feelings for a past love in his life.
