- Levels of different type of Oxygen and Carbon.

- Levels of two forms of Nitrogen.

What is the benefits of this relationship ?

Benefits

- The zooxanthallae supply much of the coral energy needs, by passing on organic carbon (sugars, amino acid).

- Protection from coral (mucus - like).

- Coral provides the important inorganic nutrient that algae need in order to growth.

- Allows coral and algae to coexist in nutrient-poor envitonment.

Threats to the Algae and Coral

- Coral reefs are very sensitive to changes in the environment.

Threats

- Disturbances created by human can unbalance the environment.

Coral Bleaching

Rising in ocean temperatures causes stress to the algae, community of algae decreased.

Problems

Decrease photosynthetic rate and calcification ( lead to coral bleaching ).

- Corals share a mutualistic symbiotic relationship with zooxanthallelae algae in order to survive and reproduce,

- Any disruption to the relationship cause termination of both organisms
