Leadership by Design
Who We Are
Exploration of our own leadership styles and how we interact in a team based setting. I discovered that my style of leadership is much like that of my mother's; lead by example and then lend a helping hand to bring others up to that peak with you.

Community
Exploration of how we interact with community and the importance of community. I learned what communities I need in order to function at my best and the support from teams I need in order to grow and provide my best work.
Good Design
Learned our definitions of good design, what we thought was most important. I learned that good design, to me, is something that won't sacrifice necessary functionality for the sake of form. Functionality/functioning as is required by its use must take prescedence over looking pretty.

Innovation
Created our own definitions for innovation, including various breadths of definition. Innovation, for me, is to make any small change to an object or device that changes its use case in any way or changes the diversity of its user base.
Intentional Design
Intentional Design
Learned about the need for intentional design and designing for the edge cases. When you design for the edge cases, everything in between is included as well. For example, designing the cockpit of a plane to fit both the tallest person and shortest person that can become a pilot automatically will include everyone in between.
Growth
Throughout this first year at Mines and in LbD, I have grown quite a lot as a designer and a leader. I have become more comfortable with myself and confident in my ability to be a leader of a group and to lead myself. I have also defined for myself what I believe is good design and how I can go about designing well.

Where I Will Go
From the connections I have made along the way, combined with the skills I had and have gained from this honors program, I am likely to go into the robotics induestry. I already have an internship with Toro Robotics set up for this summer, and I have lots of expertice with autonomous systems and robotic design due to building multiple autonomous aerial vehicles and designing the world championship FRC robot with Team 1619. Our bot, "Vertigo" had fully autonomous capabilities, and I designed several of the vital pieces of the system, along with the rest of my team at 1619. I also aim to return and become a mentor on the team, helping to bring further success to the team that kickstarted my robotics career.
