Our films secondary target audience we are looking at men between the ages of 15- 25. We think this would appeal to that audience as well as the film is still a horror film with enough suspense and horror within it to entertain them. It could also appeal to men who have a strong female role model in there life and they can relate and support this theme.
Another type of secondary audience that could be interested would be the older generation of women as they could be intrigued to see more powerful roles of women.
Our primary target audience for our film are females between the ages of 15-25. We think that the women in between these ages would be interested in our film as the are the most up to date and relevant to the 'Meetoo' movement. We think that having three strong women wil attract young females as they would want to support and get behind the stronger females roles, as it also goes against the usual stereotypes of horror films where there is a male who has a dominant role such as the hero or the villian. We have decided to challange them stereotypes as the villian and the other main characters are all female, The character that gets killed off is the only male actor in the film.
Due to the covid 19 lockdown we did not want to invest our money into distributing our film in the cinemas as the we were in lockdown (cinemas were shut) or there was little to no people going as they were scared to go into public.
Instead we decided to spend our money on distributing our film on streaming services such as Netflix and Youtube. This fitted in as well with our target audience as most of 15-25 year olds use streaming services alot more. So by releasing it Netflix and Youtube it was really a blessing as lots of people spent the majority of the TV watching on the websites.
For the certification ratings for our film we decided to rate it at a 15 (suitable for 15 years or older) we decided to put it at this because our film contains the following:
Dangerous behavior
Discrimination
Drugs
Language
threat and horror
violence
Even though that a majority of these do not appear in the two minute clip they appear throughout the film, there fore we thought that it would not be suitable for any one under the age of 15.
One theorist that we incorporated in our film was Stuart Hall. Stuart hall created the representation theory where he discussed that there a three different types of reactions to a media product. Firstly there is the preferred readers which in our case would be our primary target audience women between the ages of 15-25 because it is a women dominated film with three strong female protagonists, because of our primary target readers wee'd hope that our auidence would relate to and identify with them on a personal level.
Secondly Hall said that there were 'negotiated readers' in our case that would be our secondary target audience which are men aged 15-25 as they might like supernatural theme or they may support the Female Protagnoists ( support the me too movement) however some may be against the amount of men in the film as there is only one that gets killed off.
Finally there is oppositional readers they will probably be men who are completely against the fact that females main protagonist and would not want to watch the film.
