At the beginning, Montag is like everyone else. He doesn't think of what is right or not and just does his own thing. This shows that he lets apathy rule his life.

After he realizes that there's a need for a change in both the society and himself, he turns to Faber for help. Faber helps Montag in understanding what he needs to do and he does that.
Towards the end of the book once Montag is done facing all the struggles that came with being a good person, he gets away from the city and finds himself a hideout where he reflects on his past doings and focus on his new self/
