The starting point

The Aztec empire initiated when the Aztecs settled near Lake Texcoco.

The city of Tenochtitlan

In 1325, on an island in Lake Texcoco, the city of Tenochtitlan is founded by the Aztecs.

Causeways are built

Causeways and canals were built for transport and crops.

Defeat of the Tepanecs

The Tepanecs were defeated by the Aztecs. The Aztecs took over the Tepanecs and expanded their empire.

Montezuma, the first, becomes ruler shortly after the passing of his father. His reign was on for 29 years.

Montezuma dies and Ahuitzotl becomes his successor. Ahuitzotl's reign was supposibly the Golden age.

Christopher Columbus was an explorer, who 'discovered' the north americans.

Montezuma ii became ruler and during his reign the Aztec Empire were supposibly the most powerful.

In 1519 Cortez and his conquistadors arrived in Tenochtitlan prepared to conquer the Aztecs and their land

Out burst of Small-pox

The Europians carried small-pox to Tenochtitlan and it killed half of their population.

The effect of small-pox left the Aztec people defenceless against their enemies.

Cortez claims the city of Tenochtitlan for Spain

In 1521 Cortez finally deafeted the Aztecs and took his claim over the city of Tenochtitlan.

Tenochtitlan is rebuilt!

Once Tenochtitlan was rebuilt it was called Mexico City and was declared the capital city of the Spanish colony in the Americans- "New Spain"
