The Tower Bridge was built in London between 1886 and 1894, and crosses the River Thames near the Tower of London.

  • It is a Suspension bridge.
  • 70,000 tons of concrete were sunk into the riverbed to support the construction.
  • Over 11,000 tons of steel provided the framework for the towers and walkways.
  • The bridge is 801 feet long and 60 feet wide. The height is 213 feet.

The Tower Bridge was officially opened in 1894 by the Prince and Princess of Wales. London Bridge was originally the only crossing for the Thames but as the population of London grew, new bridges were needed.
