ERASMUS+ project
The project is the liberation of synergies between the educational and the cultural world. It focuses on communication and dissemination of new reading grids of the contemporary artistic field, in order to improve the sensitivity of a young audience, to overcome the limits of direct learning in relation to social and historical topics, by introducing more holistic and integrated learning techniques, to increase the relationship between schools, culture and experts, professionals, local community, as an important source of learning and teaching.
(b. 1975, Thessaloniki, Greece) is a Greek/British artist based in London (UK) and Lisbon (Portugal). His work embraces moving image, sound and other media to create immersive audio-visual installations and performances which emerge from his long-standing investigation of the voice as a sculptural material and a socio-political agent. The themes of labour, industrial landscapes and the voices of their inhabitants have been a preoccupation of his recent films.
M.Karikis has performed internationally including at Royal Opera House Covent Garden, London, and Barbican Theatre, London. His sound works have been published world-wide by Bjork, DJ Spooky, UNICEF, MIT and on Sub Rosa records, and broadcast on most major European national radio stations including the BBC Radio 3, RAI3 and Radio France. He holds academic and research positions at the University of Brighton and Royal College of Art, London.
