The men with goat milk skin
Enslavement
Men with the skin color of a goats milk approach the village, and start a celebration. While the celebration is ongoing they surprise attack and start killing and raiding the village. This is the beginning of whats called enslavement .

The men kidnapped them and threw on a ship to America where they would soon become slaves.
On the ship Amari (the main character) met a
new friend named Afi who had informed her
of the things that she will experience . Later
Amari almost got raped but a man saved her ,
that same man taught her English which would
be very useful later on.

The slave auction
They had finally made it to America now was time for the slave auction. Amari was sold to a man named Mr.Derby, and Amari was a gift for Mr.Derby's son who was turning sixteen.

Mrs. Derby, Mr. Derby's wife was going into labor and Amari was in charge of delivering the baby. While delivering the baby Amari and Mrs.Derby noticed the baby was brown-skinned, they tried to hide it from Mr.Derby but he eventually found out and Noah (the biological father) came clean that Noah and Mrs. Derby had an affair. So Mr.derby killed both Noah and the baby in front of Mrs.Derby's face with no remorse.

Polly , Amari, and Tibit alll ran from Mr.Derby and ran through Fort Mose, to escape to freedom.
