Community Involvement

What is community Involement?

Community involvement is having an open door to all those that surround the school: Parents, churchs, small business. Having a welcoming attitude towards everyone who wants to help and support our students.

What is it?

Why?

WHY?

Why do we want outside people coming into our schools?

By allowing the community to come into our schools we are allowing our students to see how their community supports them. They have people who live around them that want to see them succeed. Who are encouraging and cheering them on to success!

How to involve the Community?

We need to provide more information to our parents and community about what is taking place at our school.

Monthly newsletters will do just that! Parents will hang the newsletter to the fridge and it will be a constant reminder of what is taking place in their students' life and education.

Open House

I think schools should have several open houses throughout the school year. By allowing parents inside our classrooms we are being more open and transparent with them about their students. It also gives the students a chance to take ownership of their education.

Feedback

Feedback

Parents should be allowed to provide feedback to the teachers and school admin about their experiences throughout the year.

Conferences

Conferences

I strongly believe that conferences should also be held during open houses. Whether its teacher led or student led conferences. It allows for the students to take ownership of their success and struggles while being support by the adults in their lives.

Afterschool Programs

I believe that creating different afterschool programs can also help develop community involvement. Ask parents, local businesses, and organizations to lead these programs that way the responsibility is off the teacher and on the community.

“When Communities come together to address the need for after school programs, new family- school-community partnerships can form, benefiting all involved.”

-Achievement is boosted

Parents:

-perceptions of the school are improved and there are stronger ties and commitment to the school.
