The main character is Scott Hudson. He is a 15 year old boy starting his first year in highschool.

The main conflict is man Vs society, because a new girl named lee shows up at Zenger High and everybody makes fun of her and treats her bad; meanwhile Scott has to decide if he will be nice to her and get made fun of or stick with the crowd and treat her poorly for his popularity.

1. Scotts mom becomes pregnant and it causes a lot of extra stress on him.

2. All of Scotts old friends start drifting apart from Scott. As a result he doesn't have as much friends.

3. A girl named Lee shows up to the school as an outcast. At first Scott thinks about his social status and ignores her.

When Scott gets to school, he imediately starts hearing rumors about someone who tried to kill themselves. He instantly thinks of Lee because she always looked sad and starts to worry for her. He later found out it wasn't her, but realized he cared for her no matter how much he wanted to deny it.

When Scott takes Lee to the dance, not worrying about what any one will think or say.

The theme of this novel is: never let other people dictate the decisions you make or how you think about yourself.

In the story Scott says, "I can't let people see me with her!" Indicating that he was scared of what people would think about him if he was With lee because he would get made fun of.

Also late in the book Scott tells Lee, "Were going to the dance, I dont care what people think."
