Wind Power

By: Anuja Koirala and Kassandra Rios

Detailed description of Wind Power

Description of wind power

Wind power in general is very simple compared to other systems of power. It is a form of renewable energy. There are two or three propeller blades that are around a rotor. Then that is connected to the main shaft, and the main shaft then spins the generator. Wind power is basically the opposite of a fan. A fan uses energy to make wind, but a wind turbine uses wind to make electricity.

History of Wind Power

History about wind power

People have used Wind power since early record of history. The earliest record was from 5000 b.c. when wind propelled boats in the Nile River. And by 500 b.c. windmills in china were pumping water, and as year went on, wind power was used more and more eventually leading to using wind as a source for electricity.

continued..

The first time a windmill powered machine was invented was in the 1rst century a.b., by a greek engineer Heron of Alexander. It was a wind driven wheel is used to power a machine.

Where the energy source is found and recovered

Where it is found?

Wind turbines are usually found in a wide area of flat land and near costal areas. Energy in the wind comes from uneven solar heat from the atmosphere.

How is wind power stored and distrubuted

QUESTIONS

Excess energy will be stored so when there is low winds, energy will be ready to be distrubuted. Wind turbines can use ecsess power to compress air. There are usually ground tanks or underground caverns to help store it. Hydrogen feulcells are places where they can be stored there. If there is higher demand, they have energy stores and if not, they can store energy for the future.

How wind power is used today?

Wind power is used for generating electricity from wind turbines that collect the wind and turn it into electricty. People all over the world use wind turbines to save money and help the enviorment.

How it effects the enviorment

Advantages: Its a renewable energy, no harmful gases are made, clean, no fracking.

Disadvantages: It decreases the bird and bat population, because they get caught in the propellers. Land porblems are also an issue. Since wind turbines take up alot of space.

How the energy source effects the ecomeny.

Advantages: It doesn't cost much and is very clean so it won't cost enviormental issues, like pollution. It also gives more jobs (100,000 in 2016) and theres not fuel cost.

Disadvantages: Like I said in the last slide, in takes up alot of land space and makes alot of noise so it will be a aesthetic pollution to tourist and nieghbors.
