Locations

Mangroves can be found all the way down from Florida, to Argentina, to the West and East Coasts of Africa, and much more. They are usually located on continents with tropical/sub-tropical coasts.

Unique Abiotic and Biotic Factors

Abiotic and Biotic

  • Biotic

- Decomposers such as bacteria and fungi break down and recycle organic material within an ecosystem

- Aquatic Animals; When large branches from Mangrove trees fall, they provide habitat for many marine animals like molluscs, fish, or crabs.

  • Abiotic

- Water Clarity: mangrove trees have a complex root system that filter Nitrates and Phosphates.

- Temperature: Extreme heat that would kill off most plants; Mangrove trees are unique to where they reflect sunlight

- Nutrients: Mangrove take up nitrogen and phosphorus and use these building blocks to build roots, stems and leaves

-Salinity: Mangrove Trees have the ability to exclude salts through filtration of the surface of the root.
