- President Van Buren was against joining the two countries because he feared it would cause war.
- President Polk wanted the boundary to be Rio Grande.
- Then Texans elected Sam Houston president and voted to join Texas to the United States.

The war started on April 25th ,1846 to 1848.

- This happened because slavery was against Mexico law, but Americans brought slaves anyway.

- Tejanos wanted to break away from Mexico because they did not like Santa Anna's laws.
