Character Summery

Titania, queen of the fairies is annoyed, manulpilated and then comes to realization. She is a strong female role in the play A Midsummer Night's Dream. She is a loyal wife to her king, Oberon, who wantes Titania to love him as much as she love the child. In recent events, her friend has past and her son is left all alone. Titania welcomes him as a son of her own.

Act 2, Scene 1, Lines 122-124

Act 2, Scene 1, Lines 122-124

"Set your heart at rest. The Fairyland buys not the child of me. His mother was a votaress of my order,"

Titania is making her point and is saying that all of the fairies in Fairy land can't grant her a child. The mother of this lost boy was a worshiper of Titania. Titania is standing up for what she wants and is owning it. This implys that Oberon and all of the fairies are incapable of giving her what she wants.

Act 2, Scene 1, Lines 143-145

"Oberon:Give me that boy and I will go with thee."

"Titania: Not for thy fairy kingdom.–Fairies, away! We shall chide downright, if I longer stay."

Essential Question 1

Essential Question 1

How do particular lines of the dialogue propel the action?

Titania wants to raise this child as her own, but Oberon is refusing to let her keep the child. Oberone wants to take the child himself and make it his servent. This lead Oberon to put the loveflower's juice under her eyes, causing her to fall inlove with Bottom. Oberon is the source of all the conflict in the future of the play. Since Oberon didn't get his way, he is going to force it upon everyone and make things in the eyes of him.

Act 2, Scene 1, Lines 81

Titania: "These are the forgeries of jealousy."

This tells the reader what Titania is thinking about the lies that role off of Oberons tongue. Oberon is speaking ill of her 'child' and he won't stand for the thing in their world.

Essential Question 2

Essential Question 2

How are the characters in the play a depiction of real people during Shakespeare’s time in Early Modern England?

Titania represents Queen Elizebeth because she is a strong female lead. During this scene, Titania is calling out Oberon for being jealous. She is showing a strong sense of leadership. She knows that Oberon is jealous of her bond with the boy and she points this out to him. A power move by Shakespear to show this.

Act 3, Scene 1, Line: 143

"Titania: Be kind and courteour to this gentleman."

Titania is ordering around her fairies to tend to Bottoms ever need. She wants them to be kind and polite to the 'man of her dreams'.

Essential question 3

Essential question 3

What conflicts or barriers does the main character encounter?

Titania is put under a love potion which causes her to fall inlove with Bottom who changed into a creature of some kind. His head had turned into one of a donkey. Titania is so inlove with Bottom that she uses her power to grant him access to anything that he wants. This is a conflict for Titania because she doesn't know that Oberon bewitched her to fall inlove with something abnormal. This creates conflict because Bottom is nowhere to be found by his friends and they are worried. Titania has no idea what is going on. She is like a queen that is in love with her power.

Change to Character

Titania goes from being jealous to working with her husband to make sure things are put in order and everyone is happy. This is proven because she doesn't argue with her husband about rejoycing to the fixing of all of the problems caused by Oberon and Puck.

Change to Character

Act 5, Scene 1, Lines: 377-380

Act 5, Scene 1, Lines: 377-380

"Titania: First, rehearse your song by rote, to each word a warbling note. Hand in hand with fairy grace will we sing and bless this place."

Titania is telling all of the fairies to sing thier song. Titania and Oberon have the same wishes as to what the fairies will be. Together they rule them and help to make what they control different and new.
