Vallabhgad fort is located besides National Highway 4. It is mid-point of two major cities namely Belgaum and Kolhapur. There are airports in both cities and are well-connected to the fort via other transits.

The closest town Shankeshwar is 3 kms south of Vallabhgad. There are two roads to travel uphill namely Vallabhgad road and Hargapur road

The local Bus drops you till temple of Goddess Margubai near the bastion of the fort. A lamp post is built on the opposite side of temple. The arc of entrance is small and built in Gomukhi Style which is typical of forts constructed by the Marathas. The gateway wall is built of harder stone- dressed blocks of granite.

There are about three temples on fort and broken houses which had accomodated about 50 families after British Govt took over the charges.

There are two ancient temples on fort of Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman. There are stories around these temples.

Karveerkar Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raja gave the forts of Vallabhgad, Bhimgad, Pargad and Kalanidhigad to Sadashivrao Bhau Peshwa as Jahagir.

Marathas won it back from Mughals and Shahu Maharaj of Satara rebuilt this fort.

Later Karveerkar Chhatrapati was the ruler of this fort.

There are several underground tunnels which is a norm under guerrilla warfare techniques used by the Maratha Empire.

One of them was found recently while constructing a road to fort while the knowledge about others is passed from generations to generations in the form of oral history.
