Rationing regulated what people could buy
Remember we learned that when a LOT of people want something that's not available the price goes up? Well during the war, goods had to be conserved to make sure there was enough for the troops. The government needed a way to conserve AND keep prices fair.
When people are limited it can often lead to frustration. Think of a time you couldn't have something you wanted. The government needed to make sure it wouldn't lead to riots
Without government controlling prices with ration stamps the prices would skyrocket meaning only the rich could afford the things they wanted and needed.
"Blue Stamps" were all canned, bottled, or frozen fruits & veggies AND soups, baby food, juice, etc.
