  • Silicon Valley in the Bay Area is the center of America's high tech industry.
  • Oregon and Washington have also seen rapid growth with the setting up of the Boeing and Microsoft companies.
  • The desert and mountain states have developed ranching and mining activities.

The West has been shaped by a variety of ethnic groups, and the Far West as well as the Gold Rush have contributed to the creation of a very unique culture.
