Treasure Planet

A Heroes Journey

Refusal of the Call

The Ordinary World

Jim Hawkins, our hero in the story, is a teenager who is lost with himself. Jim longs for freedom and adventure, but is always getting himself into trouble. He's always disappointing his mother and he hates it, but he desperately wants to find his identity.

The Ordinary World

Jim Hawkins is the hero of the story. The Hero of a story is audiences personal tour guide through the story. A good hero has to be relatable to the audience.

The Hero

The Call to Adventure

Jim takes a walk outside of the inn and runs into a ship that crashed in his moms parking lot and he runs over to check it out. A creature comes stumbling out of the ship, rambling about his "treasure" and that theres a cyborg whos after it. The creature is injured and Jim takes it inside, wheere, moments after, a band of pirates shows up and burns down the inn in search of the treasure.

Refusal of the Call

The "treasure" is actual a bronze, spherical key. Which you unlock to reveal a map that paints the path to Treasure Planet (The planet with treasures of a thousand worlds) Jims mother immediately tells Jim that he can't go. It's all theoretical, and far too dangerous. And she doesn't want to lose him. But eventually Jim, (and their family friend Delbert) manages to convince her that it would be good for him.

Crossing the Threshold

They set off into space and begin their adventure!!!

Crossing the Threshold

Allies, Tests, Enemies

Tests, Allies, Enemies

-As they're flying a nearby star dies and turns into a black hole, sucking them in. Jims responsibility was to secure the life lines, but one of the crewmates undid them causing a death and getting Jim in trouble.

-Jim discovers that his new mentor and father-figure Silver was the terrible cyborg he was warned about. Afterwhich Silver and his lackies take over the ship. But Jim, Delbert, and Captain Amelia escape with the map.

- They crash land in a strange forest and hide from the pirates. Where they meet a wackjob robot named Ben whos lost his memory. Ben helps the team out until SIlver catches them all and holds them hostage.

The Approach

Approach

They discover how to use the key to open the portal to the center of Treasure Planet. Upon stepping inside, they trigger the defense system and the planet starts to self destruct. In the chaos....Sliver has to chose between saving Jim, or the treasure.

The Ordeal and Reward

Jim and the crew speed away from the planet and try to escape as quickly as possible, but the ship isn't fast enough. So Jim has to face his fears and turn back to switch the portal destination, and safely navigate the ship through the portal.

The Road Back/Ressurection

The Road Back and the Resurrection

Everyone approaches Jim and congraulates him for his success in saving them all. On the way home he notices Silver is missing. He finds him the the hull of the ship, prepping to escape. SIlver offers to take Jim with him and start their own adventure, together. But Jim declines and they go their separate ways. He's finally figured himself out, and knows who he wants to be, his decison confirms his growth from the beginning.

The Mentor/Villain

Long John Silver is a unique character since he holds the role of the Mentor AND the Villain. The Mentor teaches the Hero how the new world operates, and how to survive in it. The villain doesn't obtain the reward and is defeated by the hero. Whereas Heroes need to work to obtain their mastery, the villain often starts out with it. Which makes the Mentor and the Villain easy roles to combines.

Return with the Elixir

Jim returns home to his mom with prospects, the money to rebuild the inn, a future and an identity.
