Definition of forensics psychology

Defnition

Forensics psychology - the application of psychology to questions and issues relating to law and the legal system , including crimincal justice

( criminal profiling , child custody evaluation , false confession )

Rational Choice theory

Rational Choice theory ( glasser , 2010 ). suggests that people make choices base on the benefits and disadvanatage that might happen to them. people will tend to choose the options that gives them the most satisfaction.

1. benefits - (the prouducts that you can get if you decideto shoplift )

2. Costs - ( consequences , caught by the security and face legal actions , damging your own reputation , etc )

3. Decisions - ( if the benefits outweights the costs, the chances are you are most likely going to shoplift )

4. Mitigating factors - ( factors that contributes to either benefits or cost for exampe strong security measures or severe legal cnsequences which might contribute againats shoplifting.

Example - when a forensic psychologist assesses the mental competence of an individual accused of a crime. the examine the person's mental state to determine if they are capabale of understanding legal proceedings against them and assisting in their own defense.
