TOOLS

Tech tools for making and creating in the classroom

There were many amazing tools that I learned about at the tech conference. For me, this was the highlight of my experience. There are so many new and often free technology related tools that can make me a more effective teacher and stimulate my students.

SMART notebook

- Engaging audio and visual elements that makes your lessons more engaging and fun. I want to use the games and some of the premade lessons in my classroom. I really enjoyed seeing some of the basic smart tools used in creative ways.

TOOLS

Pear Deck

I love the collaborative aspect to this tool, the visual element, and how it connects with Quizlet. I will use this for helping students grow their vocabularies.

These tools stood out in terms of helping me create a better learning environment or helping my students learning by way of creating a product using technology.

Adobe Spark

Through this free tool, students can create graphics, videos, and web pages. It is so high quality it gives a professional touch to the product.

Google Drawings - Students create and learn with this fun visual tool and it's free!

Digital Citizenship

Teaching digital citizenship is a must in today's world. It becomes even more important the more you integrate technology into your classroom. Kayla Delzer's idea of a digital citizen boot camp and her 7 rules are practical things I will take with me from the conference to my classroom.

Genius Hour

21st Century Skills

Genius Hour is a movement that is centered around the idea of getting students to learn based off of the intrinsic motivation they have to explore their passions. I love this idea because it puts the students in charge of their own learning, allows teachers opportunity to learn more about their students, and has the potential to create the habits of lifelong learners!

IDEAS WORTH SHARING

Ideas Worth Considering

Brain breaks are something that I use in my classroom all of time. However, going through Jeremy Harder's slides about connecting students and teachers to mindfulness only reinforced and reinvigorated me to keep pushing in this direction.

IDEA 2

Flexible seating and reimaging classroom design sounds like a great way to increase student happiness and productivity. It does seem challenging as well. With this in mind, I have partially implemented the flexible seating idea into a few activities I do in my classroom. I am not sure if I will ever go all in on this one, but I will look for way to use it.

IDEA 3

The mobile bus is an inspiring idea. I have not figured out a way to use this idea for my purposes, but I like the thought of bringing people together with a collaborative and create energy.

Conclusions

Conclusions taken from the tech summit

Conclusion 1

Conclusion 1

Technology is something you have to keep up with. It is so valuable to take the time to see what is out there and see how other people are using tech tools in their classrooms. I now have a better understanding of my Smartboard, Google products, and some sweet interactive apps. I know that I have benefitted from seeing these ideas and so will my students.

Conclusion 2

Technology needs to be implemented thoughtfully and needs to be used thoughtfully. Digital citizenship is something that every teacher and student needs to have on the forefront of their minds. As wonderful as technology and the hyper connected world can be, it can also be awful and scary. Teachers and students need to be educated on how to use technology in the classroom.

Conclusion 2

Conclusion 3

Conclusion 3

Creativity and passion are keys to helping students become life long learners. I learned about tech tools that unleashed the creativity and passion of students. I learned about ideas like Genius Hour that helped demonstrate creativity and passion. I learned about activities like Brain Breaks that helps students be more creative and passionate. All around this conference, these two words were buzzing. I feel like if people are focused on inspiring these two things in the classroom, like at this conference, we will all be better learners.
