Who he is...

Eric Edward Whitacre is a Grammy award winning choral composer and conductor since the young age of 21. With astounding pieces such as Go, Lovely Rose and Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine about the great inventor Leonardo Di Vinci, he has blown the minds of many and changed lives across the world.

The beginning

The beginning

Born in 1970, young Eric joined his junior high Marching Band while also learning to play the piano. Even though he was incapable of fully understanding how to read music, he pursued a musical college education at the University of Nevada. Whitacre then joined one of the college choirs, his first piece being Mozart's Requiem, forever changing his life.

Composing

Composing

His first piece, Go, Lovely Rose, was written at age 21 while under the choral influence of David Weiller. From then on, he went to earn his masters at Julliard Fine Arts school, writing thouands of choral pieces for various choirs and orchestras, one of which being Ghost Train, which has been rerecorded over 40 times.

Conducting

As well as composing music, Eric also likes to conduct choral choirs, orchestras, etc. On October 24, 2010, he conducted an all-American program with the London Symphony Orchestra & Chorus at Barbican London.

Conducting

Virtual Choir

Virtual Choir projects all began with a young woman named Britllin Losee from Long Island, New York, who sent a video of herself singing one of his own pieces, Sleep.

Singers from across the globe send in videos of themselves singing their parts of his music. Eric then synchronizes the videos to create one single performance.
