Civilizations in the Quran

By: Javeria Ghori

Introduction

The purpose of this project is to shed light on and learn from some of the stories mentioned in the Quran about previous nations and civilizations.

The stories I have chosen are the Nation of A'ad and the People of the cave.

City of Iram

  • 'Lost Arabian City found'
  • Known for their large palaces and strong pillars

Do you see any of them left alive? (69:8)

People of A'ad

Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad -

[With] Iram, who had lofty pillars (89:6-7)

How does this apply to us?

The Cave

  • This story not only tells us about the sleepers of the cave it also tells us about the nation that most scholars agree was during the reign of Decius.

People of the Cave

So We caused them to fall into a dead sleep in the cave for many years. It is We who relate to you, [O Muhammad], their story in truth. Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance. (18:11-12)

How does this apply to us?
