ELA Assessment Plan

Assessments

Course Cadence

Essays:

-every 5 weeks

-first week graphic organizer

-second week rough draft

-third week peer review and teacher conferences

-fourth and fifth week final draft written on nice paper

Vocab/Academic Language:

- set of 10 words every week (words given on Monday)

-test on Friday

-Students will work with words during small groups

- homework due on Friday is rainbow writing with all 10 sight words

Small groups:

(every Tuesday and Thursday)

-group games

-building vocab words with magnetic letters

-reading with the teacher

-worksheet with a short reading and questions

Small Group Games:

-matching game with svocab words

-go fish with vocab words

-quizzing each other with flashcards

Summative Assessments

Vocab Words:

Every two weeks students will pick 10 out of the 20 vocab words and write sentences that contain them.

Essays:

- One essay talking about a main theme in a book they read during small groups

- Persuasive essay on something of the students choice

- desrciptive direction essay to show the importance of explaining instructions

- Fictional story that students create about an imaginary friend to help develop creativity

- Weekly Vocabulary Quizzes:

Words will be read aloud to students and they have to correctly spell them

- Small Writing Activities:

Everyday, as a do-now, students will be asked a question. It could range from "What did you do this weekend?'' to "What is your favorite game?" Students will be required to write 2-3 sentences for each question.

-Small readings and Kids Time Magazines:

We will read atricles and short stories in class. Together we will come up with answers to the questions
