Ethan Battson

Summary

The Fenian Cycle

The Fenian Cycle was often times also called the Ossian Cycle. The stories within the Fenian Cycle were about the warriors within the Fianna Eireann, a military order. Finn Mac Cumhaill was the main character. The Fenian Cycle was much less brutal than the previous period. Don't let that fool you though, many battles still took place in the Fenial Cycle. Featured in the Fenian Cycle were Oisin, Cailte, Diarmait, and Goll, during the reign of Conn Cetchathach and Cormac Mac Airt.

Battle at Cnucha

Conn Cetchathach was ruling Ireland. Eogan Mor, king of Munster, was Conn's supreme rival. Conn established the Fianna Eireann with two main clans- the Morna and Baiscne. Finn was Fian captain and cheiftain of the Baiscne clan. Goll was chieftain of the Morna clan. Tadg, Conn's adviser, had a daughter named Muirenn who ended up marrying Finn. Tadg made Goll challenge Cumhail for Fian captain. The two clans clashed at Cnucha. Lia killed Finn Cumhaill in battle and spared Goll. Goll Ended up becoming the new Fian captain.

Chieftain Pursuit

Chieftain pursuit

Muirenn fled to Slieve Bloom. Demna, Murirenn's son, grew up to kill Lia, who killed his father, and became the new chieftain of Baiscne. Demna's uncle, Crimmal trained him in martial arts and taught him about their history. When Demna needed knowledge, all he had to do was put his thumb in his mouth. Demna killed the goblin and the king made him the new Captain of the Fianna, causing Goll to step down.

Sadb and Oisin

Sadb and Oisin

Finn woke up to a lovely woman named Sadb, the night a fawn followed him back to the dun. She told Finn that the Dun of Allen broke the spell on her. Finn spent all his time with Sadb until invaders from the Northmen arrived. Sadb thought she saw her husband arrive home, but instead it was the Dark Druid who turned her back into a fawn. Finn found his own son one day in the woods and named him Oisin. However, Sadb and the Druid were never seen again.

The Ventry Encounter

The Ventry Encounter

Dairi Donn built an army from all over Europe to take back his wife. The Fianna were no match for Donn until the Tuatha De Danann arrived to assist the Fianna. The Dananns fought while the Fian's rested. Finn killed Ogarmach but Cael died in battle. He drowned to death while chasing his enemies to the sea. Finn slayed King Dairi Donn and the Fianna pushed the invaders out of Ireland. Cael was brought back home to his wife for a proper burial. Cred died beside her dead husband in response to her sorrow.

Invasion of Ireland

The Invasion of Ireland

Oscar, son of Oisin, killed Colgan. Finn took in Colgan's son, Midac, and raised him until he was a young man until he went off to the district of Kanri. Irla found Innsa at Midas's palace and severed his head. Midac was beheaded by Diarmait and avenged Fiancha. Diarmait killed the three kings of the Island of Torrent. Oisin gathered as many men as he could and battled Borb the Haughty and his warrioris at Ford. The Fianna won the battle when Oscar beheaded Sinsar and the surviving invaders left on their ships.

Love at First Sight

Love at First Sight

Graine married Fionn MacCool as his second wife. However, she fell in love with Diarmuid, casted a spell, and made him fall in love with her. Fionn chased after them and Grainne became pregnant. Diarmuid killed a wild boar but ended up getting seriously injured. The two were found with Diarmuid dying in Grainne's arms. Fionn resisted to save him until his son Oisin threatened to kill him. Diarmuid died before Fionn got the water to save him.

Lost Power

When Cairbre, son of Cormac, became king of Ireland, he wanted to deminish the power of the Fianna. To begin the war, Cairbre killed Ferdia who was Finn's servant. Fighting at Gabhra, in Leinster, Oscar, son of Oisin, killed Cairbre. Oisin was covered with casualties and soon died after. Only about 20 Fian warriors lived. The fianna power was diminished.

Adventures Along the go

Cailte and Oisin, son of Finn, meet St. Patrick. They were the only ones to survive at the Battle of Gabhra. Cailte met St. Patrick at Finn's burial mound. The two walked together on St. Patricks mission as Cailte told him stories about every place they arrive at. The two arrived in Tara where they greeted Oisin.
