Marinette Dupain-Cheng

Summary of Marinette

Brainstorm

Marinette is a French parisian who has basically a double life! She is a baker and a student at high school and is an aspiring fashion designer. She's your typical bubbly high schooler who has a very happy personality. She deeply cares for all of her friends and would do anything to protect them. One time when she can't act like herself is when she's around her crush Adrien. She get's really flustered and can't really speak a simple sentance. But there's one thing the other characters in the show know. She's also Paris's protecter Ladybug! She's almost a completely different person. She's still super brave and would do anything to protect her friends and other parisians. She's so much more smooth and confident in herself. She will do anything to protect Paris. She's very selfnenss and can think on the fly!

Marinette has a strong superego and weak id. Her superego makes her a super level headed person and holds super high standards for herself. Since this is a kids show I'm pretty sure they made her this way so kids would copy her and be able to look up to her. She always puts school first and puts other needs before her own. Everyone sees her as a responsible reliable figure. The only time her id comes into play is when she is around her crush Adrian. She always seems to be blind to others and others feelings when Adrian is around; almost like a tunnel vision and she only sees him. Her id always tells her that she needs to put him first and cater to him to get his attention. Her ego balances the two out and the cycle basically repeats anytime she's in that vicinity. As Ladybug (her secret superhero identity) she completely changes. Her drive to save Paris is the only thing on her mind. She has no time to think about her crush for Adrian and its almost like her confidence sky rockets, which is an amazing thing! It's really cool to see that as soon as she has on a mask all of her insecurities fade away and she only has on thing that drives her.

Psychoanalytic

psychosexual stages

According to Freud's psychosexual stages, Marinette has finished and went through all of her phases but she still has some fixations from previous stages. Marinette has a couple fixations from the oral and anal stages of development. Marinette has an issue with nail biting from the oral stage of development. And according to a website obsessiveness is from the anal stage of development. She has issues with anxiety and even though they don't explicitly say it you can tell she has this issue around her obsession with Adrian that when she's around him or in certain environment she get's really nervous and will bite her nails.

Every time Marinette is faced with Adrian she usually does something embarrassing like stuttering her speech or ramming herself into him. As soon as shes far away from her she usually has a little meltdown and then soon she tries to forget it ever happened and denies it never happened. This is mostly because the more she dwells on it the more she freaks out. Her friends usually distract her or she distracts herself until she forgets it. Marinette hates a certain student. The students name is Lila and Lila is a compulsive liar. The reason why Marinette hates her so much is that all of her friends believe her lies even when they are super obvious. Marinette hates her but her superego tells you that she's not allowed to hate her or else all of her friends will hate her. Because of that she projects her own insecurities onto Lila. She's afraid all of her friends will leave her for Lila. And she fails to realize that, that is not going to happen. So because of that she tries to catch Lila up in her lies and try to show her friends evidence even if she doesn't have any so they won't leave her. Since this makes her so upset she goes home and takes out her frustrations through baking or defeating bad guys. This is an example of sublimation. Since she can't satisfy her anger on Lila since it's not socially acceptable she will bake a bunch of different pastries so her friends like her more.

defense mechanisms

Marinette is a really strong independent woman! According to the stages of self-actualization she is kind of on the right path. For her psychological needs she's basically set. She has all the food, water, shelter, sleep, and clothing she needs. And for her safety? Well she's a bad ass superhero who defends all of Paris! She's basically set for her personal security and resources since she works at her fathers bakery. She's super healthy and has all the friends and support one needs. Her self esteem can sort of need a little work. Since she respects herself but sometimes she can get a little insecure around Lila or Adrian. She is loved by her parents and friends. But one thing she definitely needs is love. She's so infatuated with Adrian she can sometimes be blind to all of her choices and actions around her. But as Ladybug she is basically trying to be the most she can offer and almost reaches it. In order to achieve self actualization she will need to love herself more and be able to put personal feels aside. Marinette's ideal self, is basically who she is now but in a relationship with Adrian. It's her perfect dream. But in reality her actual self can sometimes by a clumsy mess around her big crush. She actually has a positive self-concept and because of that she knows she has an unconditional positive regard from her parents and her closest friends. She knows in her darkest times she can rely on her friends and family to help pick her up and always support her. Because of her environment she is able to flourish mentally, academically, and physically. She strives for her best self and has a natural ability to help others and pick them up as well. Because of the environment she had growing up she's a genuinely nice person who is empathetic of others. But until she gets over her crush, or get the love she desires she will be able to achieve self-actualization

Extroversion: Marinette is always willing to talk to a new classmate or a really shy one. She is really sociallable and because of that she is fairly liked. Because of that she's not afraid to be herself around others.

Observant: Marinette can always tell when someone is off or just not feeling well. She is always one to put others needs before her own and make sure they are okay. Also as ladybug she needs to know when someone is down so she can help them not succumb to evil and beat them. She always is aware of her surroundings and uses it to her advantage.

Feeling: Usually Marinette lets her emotions control her kind of. What I mean by that is that it leads a majority of her decisions, she trusts her guts and goes with it. And it usually works out for her!

Judging: Marinette uses this trait to approach her work, planning and decision-making. Marinette likes to logically formulate all of her plans before going through them to make sure all of her friends and family would agree with anything she does.

bio-psychosocial

Social Cognitive

There are a bunch of different factors that influence behavior. Since personality and behaviors are based on your environments, reciprocal determinism causes Marinette to change who she is around certain people. Around one of the new girls Lila she feels threatened because as soon as she entered her enviornment everything changed because of the way she is settling by lying to every one. Because of this Marinette feels some kind of anger and she is worried about all of her friends leaving her. Because of this Marinette uses her traits of thinking and judging to try to find out how to expose Lila and catch her in all her lies. Since Marinette is insecure about Lila being in her circle if someone else from that same circle was to act differently it would be a bit strange because no one else seems to notice Lila's interior motives and no one is as perceptive as Marinette.

locus of control

Biologically a lot of her personality was passed down from her parents. Genetically she inherited her mom's way of caring for others and thinking stuff through and rationally. Because of that she is able to help her friends and herself through tough times and hard decision making. Psychologically she's developed a way to learn her friends and other peoples responses to how she acts and learns from it. She realizes her own and others body language and can tell when someone is needing of help. Unconsciously her thought process is usually pure and has the best intentions. Socially shes grown from her environment and thrives in it. Because when she has grown up she was showered with as much love and support as needed she was able to stay positive through really hard times. Because of this she can support her other friends and stays super optimistic through it all.

Marinette has an internal locus of control. I say that because she knows she has control of her future and the things she does impacts her and others. She knows she has control over her environment she knows what to do to make her path. She is determined to motivate herself to do the things she loves and she knows she can make things happen.
