  • Butlers writing was often geared towards womans rights, social injustice, and racism. These topics are significant because when Butler was born segregation was still seen amoung the world. Butler took the fear, Violence, and lack of freedom that came from it all and placed it into her writing, all while giving the lead to a strong independant woman.
  • Butler was granted several awards for her writing, but past that she paved the way for women to feel safe to write about science fiction, a genre that was previously written mostly by men. Butlers work offered a "safe passage" for those who needed it most, and a voice for those who felt they never had one.
