There are currently 41,415 species on the red list. This includes both plant and animal species. Scientists estimate about 10 to 14 million species have already gone extinct between the two of them. That's at least 10,000 species each year or about 150 to 200 species every day! According to one study, at least 450,000 plant species likely exist. In addition, scientists have already discovered 1.9 million species of extinct animals with possibly millions more that have yet to be named. That's a lot of species.
To help these endangered animals, we can protect their special habitats. If you protect their habitat they will not have to move, or adapt to their new environment, which can take them years to do. You can give your time to nature by spreading seed for birds and picking up litter when you see any. Littering doesn't protect the species habitat because the animals may see the litter and mistake it for food. If they eat the litter they can get sick. Last, but not least, you can visit or volunteer at a Local Wildlife Refugees Center. These are all good examples for "How we can help endangered animals?"
The extinction of a plant or animal can change the environment, and can kill other things. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, over 30 insects can die from one plant extinction. We depend on plants and animals because if they die we are most likely to die and everything on Earth. For example, if we cut down all the trees we would die because trees produce oxygen, and the trees need carbon dioxide. We would die because we would produce too much carbon dioxide, andwe would not get any oxygen.
I'm researching this topic because I want to help endangered animals not be on the red list. I want to save these animals and plants because if they die more plants and animals will become dead, then we would die. We don't want that to happen. Do we? Scientists believe, that if one plant goes extinct one year, 30 insects can go extinct. This is why we need plants and animals to survive.
People are currently building zoos, wildlife centers, and other places that hold animals. This can help endangered animals by keeping them in safe places, because if they're left in the wild they can get hunted by people. But if they are in zoos or wildlife centers they can't be hunted. However, there can be a shooting. People who go to zoos, are good people, because they are giving time to nature. Because if they didn't like animals they wouldn't go to zoos or wildlife centers.
If somebody doesn't like an animal they can't just kill them. We could make a group, that we can go out in wildlife and pick up trash. So the animals won't eat it. If they eat the trash the animals will become sick. If we make a vet, we can help animals if they're hurt. We can keep the animal that is hurt at the vet for a few days, so they can heal. If we make more zoos and wildlife centers we can have more endangered animals in zoos, so they can have more babies and increase the population of the animal. We can also build animal shelters, for the animals to live in. Kind of like a zoo.
Dozens of animal species go extinct every day! Scientists estimate as much as 30 to 50 percent of all species are heading toward extinction by mid-century. 99 percent of endangered animals comes from humans killing them, or they're taking down their habitat. People have tried for years to stop this madness, but they can't stop it.
