By: Kadence Spencer

Description

Description

The contruction of the canal started in 1825. It was built to run from Lake Erie to the Ohio River, which is from Cleveland to Portsmouth. From 1827 to 1861, the canal carried freight traffic. 1862 to 1913, it was used for a water source for the industries and towns. It had to be 40 feet wide at the top, 26 feet wide at the bottom, and 4 feet deep. The canal is a total of 308 miles long.

When the national government heard about this idea, they refused it. They were against the canal. Maybe because it was a way of the Ohioans getting goods cheaper and quicker?

Explanation for picture #1

I chose this picture because it represents that Ohioans got more goods faster. Many people could go and afford things too because it wasn't as expensive as it was before the canal was built.
