A very well known example of Anicent Greek literature is Homer's iliad. This is 24 Books (representing the Ancient Greek alphabet). The iliad talks about the last year of the Trojan War, where Achilles' rage causes destruction.

The gods were anthropormorphic (human-like)., and were known to be tyrannical. This includes performing sacrifices before a war and overall simply living your life to please them so they (the gods) would not harm you in any way.

DEMOCRACY

DEMOCRACY

In 507 B.C., Athenian leader Cleisthenes introduced the idea od "demokratia" or what we know now as democracy,, making the Ancient Greeks to develop the world's first democracy. Unfortunately, voting was limited to only adult Athenian men, women, children, salves and even foreigners were excluded from this political reform.

The Dikasteria

This was a group of 500 jurors that were chosen by a pool of males over 30 years old. This level of government handled the crime and punishments of the city.

Buildings

BUILDINGS

Buildings were built with such precision and detail that they were consdired to be symbolic.

The same can be said for the scultures, which were made to honour the Gods and their anthropormorphic bodies.

Doric

This is one of the three types of columns used in Ancient Greek architecture. Doric columns were simple, round at the bottom and sqaure at the top. They were popular from 700 B.C. and can be found in many well known buildings such as the Parthenon.

Doric

Ionic

A second type of columns used in Ancient Greek architecture. These columns are from the Ionian islands and found in samller buildings. They were known by their scrolled capital at the top of the columns. They can be found in the Temple of Artemis at Euphesus.

Ionic

Corinthian

These columns are inspires by the city of Corinth. They are known by their more intricate handwork capitals at the top of the columns. This is found in the very well known Temple of Olympian Zeus.
