What the Mayans Were Known for
-The Mayans are known for their fully developed writing system of the Pre-Columbian Americas.
-They also created early art, architecture, mathematical and astronimical systems.
-The Mayans created the solar calender.
-They also created vast underground reservoirs that held safe water in times of drought.

- The Mayans lived in what is now Southern Mexico and Northern Central America.
- They also built Temples without metal tools and never lived in isolation.

- The most famous Mayan king was K'inich Janaab' Pakal.
- He is most famous for raising the city Palenque.
- Although other kings finished it, without his efforts it would have never existed.
- K’inich building this Palenque was vital to the people because it was so amazing that it formed alliances with other tribes.
