What it is
?
This experiment is a chemical reaction involving the combustion of powdered sugar (sucrose) and an oxidizing agent such as potassium chlorate or potassium nitrate. When mixed and ignited, the reaction produces a long, snake-like column of solid black carbon residue, hence the name "black snake." This reaction is often performed as a fun and visually appealing science demonstration.

We observe a combustion of sugar, alcohol, and bicarbonate. This occurs because the action of heat causes the sugar to decompose into water vapor and carbon, which is the element of the black color of our snake. Sodium bicarbonate breaks down into sodium carbon, water vapor, and carbon dioxide.

1. Put one tablespoon of sugar and three of baking soda in a glass.
2. We cut the top of a bottle to use it as a funnel.
3. We place the bottle on something solid and put a little of the mixture we have made in the hole of the bottle.
4. When we have the mixture in the hole of the bottle, we put a little alcohol and with a toothpick we move it a little.
5.Now with something solid we tap it a few times so that a tablet of the mixture is formed.
6. When we have the pill, we take the sand and make a small pile.
7. In the sand we place a few splashes of flammable diesel fuel.
8. Then we place the tablet that we have made in the middle of the gasoline on top of the sand.
9. Finally we take a lighter and light the pill, that will create a chemical reaction that will create like a black snake that will come out of the pill.
10. If we want a bigger snake we can put together 7 pills that will create many snakes together.

results
I did a test to see what happens when sugar and sodium bicarbonate burn together in a safe place. I saw a black snake-like shape form. The results matched what we thought would happen - the sugar turned into water and carbon, and the sodium bicarbonate turned into sodium carbonate, water, and carbon dioxide. This caused the unique shape to grow. The test confirmed how the black snake shape is made.
