Created by: HArley Levit and Zoey Gassner

The Gold Rush

The gold rush was in 1848-1855. It was held in California and was the discovery of gold nuggets. This event was one of the most signifigant events in American History. This growth was economic because they were trying to find gold so they could make money.

The Gold Rush

Manifest Destiny

In 1845 there was great belief that the expansion of the US throughout the colonies was justified. This was a very importanat time for the US mainly because they got much larger and got much wealthier. This is economic because the US got a lot of money, but at the same time it is social because their community was growing.

Manifest Destiny

The Oregon Trail

The Orgeon Trail was when pioneers went on a 2000 mile route for independence in the mid 1800s. This journey could sometimes take almost 6 months. This is both economic and social. It is economic because along the way they had to trade for resources. But they were fighting for their independence and rights which is social.

Mormonism

Mormonism is a religion and is the the leadership of the church of Jesus Crist of latterday Saints. This was founded in the 19th century with over 12 million members of it. Mormonism is social because it is a religion which not only falls under the social but falls with community, because a lot of the community were mormans.

California

California

The society of California Pioneers was established in 1850, just as it became the 31st starte in the Union. After the death of president Zachary Taylor 6 men were planning his funeral. They decided to join the funral procession as a seperate body of pioneers. They called a meeting for all the men who had lived in San Fransico for 3 years of residency. 40-50 men showed up to march in Taylors procession as a group who formed the base for the society. This is social because since it was a society which is a community, and therefor is social.

The Donner Party

The Donner Party was when a group of American Pioneers who set out for California on a wagon trail in May 1846. They were delayed by a series of mishaps and mistakes. They spent the winter of 1846-47 snowbound in the Sierra Nevada. They soon ran out of food weeks later and started to eat eachother. This is soicial because they had to work as a team when they got stranded and had to rely on there members to help them.

New Mexico

In the 1830s, many people moved from eastern U.S. to New Mexico becuase they heard reports about how it was easy to grow crops. Becuase of this they would be able to make more money. They all decided to move to New Mexico. This was an economic growth becuase they were trying to make a fortune with the crops. This growth increased the amount of planterrs in the U.S. which increased the economy becuase they had more crops to sell.

Overview

Issues of ecoconomic, social, and political influence expansion. This is because each of these topics play a role in it. With economics you have to think about resources and wealth, for instance in the California Gold Rush they had to think about how much they could sell the gold for. Politically, when you expand land you must think about how you are going to structure your government, over a large piece of land. Lastly, as for social factors, it goes back to Mormanism. Obviously, you won't be able to get everyone to be the same religion, because everyone has their own beliefs. So, you must think about how, and when you can practice your religion in your community without it conflicting, or disturbing others.
