The Nazi party was created by Anton Drexler. Although the date that the party is unknown historians have marked it to be between 1919-1920.

Hitler joins the Nazis

Adolf Hitler joined the Nazi party as member #555. Like the creation of the party, the exact date that he joined the Nazis is unknown but is around 1919-1920. When he joined them the leaders of the Nazis quickly realized that he could lead the party.

The failed Beer Hall Putsch

The Beer Hall Putsch was a revolution against the Weimar Republic on November 8-9, 1923. It was started by Adolf Hitler in a beer hall in Munich. They wanted to capture the government building but this failed. There were a lot of arrests following the putsch.

Hitler becomes Chancellor

Hitler was appointed Chancellor by Paul von Hindenburg on January 30, 1933. The reason why Hitler was given this role is because around 37% of Germans were Nazis and there was no Nazi representative in the government.

The first concentration camp is made

Dachau, the first concentration camp, was opened in 1933 originally as a camp for political prisoners. The camp was also a training center for SS soldiers. The amount of prisoners there was around 188,000 and around 30-40,000 deaths.

The Sterilization law is passed

On July 14, 1933, the sterilization law was passed so people with "undesirable traits" could not have children. These traits could consist of physical or mental diseases. Hitler wanted to build a master race, if you were going to be in it, this is what Hitler was looking for:

  • Pale skin
  • Blonde hair
  • Blue eyes
  • "Aryan"

The Nazis fined the Jewish people one billion marks (German form on currency) on November 12, 1938. The reason why they did this is because Hitler ordered all Nazis to trash Jewish property, but some Nazi property was damaged in the process. This was one of the many acts of antisemitism from the Nazis.

On September 1st, 1939, Germany invaded Poland. Germany did this so they would regain lost territories, but this sparked World War II.

Auschwitz is opened

Auschwitz, one of the most notorious concentration camps, was opened on May 20, 1940. The amounts of deaths there exceeded over 1.1 million and was located in Poland.

The Franks go into hiding

On July 6, 1942, The Franks go into hiding with the help of Miep Gies. She provided them with food, shelter, and protection from Nazis. Miep hid eight people from the Nazis.

On September 5, 1942, people that help Jewish people in the Warsaw District would be executed. Other districts did not have these rules.

On August 4, 1944, The Franks caught hiding and arrested. SS officer Karl Josef Silberbauer led the arrest.

Hitler committed suicide on April 30, 1945. He did this because he was surrounded by Soviet soldier at Führerbunker. Right before he took a cyanide pill and a bullet to the head, he and his girlfriend got married.

Germany surrenders

Germany surrendered to the Allies on May 7, 1945. This did not end the war though, Japan was still fighting on but surrendered soon after.

Stutthof was liberated on May 9, 1945 by Soviet troops. 25,000 prisoenrs died in the evacuation process and only 100 people were saved.
