When was the treaty of Ghent signed and what is it?

The treaty of Ghent was signed in 1814. It was a peace treaty between British North America and United States. The treaty was made to stop the war, no side were benefited.

  • Agriculture and farming declined due to farmers
  • not being able to take care of crops
  • Merchants made lot's of money from importing
  • goods to the army
  • Polticians and religious leaders encouraged people
  • to volunteer for the war

  • Captured 2 of America's strongest forts

Died when trying to take back Queenston Heights after Americans attacked. He wore his best uniform as tradition and was spotted by a sniper. He was shot in the chest by the sniper and died

Who was Tecumseh?

Tecumseh was the was one of the leaders of the first nations people and the chief of the Shawnee people. He had lived in the Ohio Valley region.

Achievements

  • Opposed deal with United States
  • Made an alliance with the British
  • Tricked Americans into thinking Tecumseh had way more warriors than he actually had

Died in the battle of Thames, also called Maraviantown from being heavily wounded.This caused a big dent in the Aboriginal troops and Americans defeated them. (1774)
