October 17th, 1977
The body of Yolanda Washington was found dumped on a hillside in La Cresenta, California
- The body of 15 year old Judith Miller was found naked and posed in a residential area (La Crescenta).
She was a Highschool runaway, last seen the night before on sunset blvd. in Hollywood
- Lissa, 21, is found dead in the Chevy Chase Canyon area near Glendale
She was a professional dancer with the LA knockers
she was last seen leaving her waitnressing job the night before
- 2 men approached 24 year old Catharine, with the intent of abducting her.
When the two men realized she's the daughter of actor Peter Lorre they aborted their plan.
12-year-old Dolores Cepeda and 14-year-old Sonja Johnson boarded a bus on Colorado blvd in LA, to go home after school.
The last time they were seen was when they disembarked the bus on York Blvd and North Avenue 46
Their bodies were found on the 20th near dodger stadium.
On November 20, 1977, hikers found the naked body of 20-year-old Kristina Weckler just miles from her apartment.
She was an art student described as a “loving and serious young woman who should have had a bright future ahead of her”
On November 23, 1977, the badly decomposed body of 28-year-old Evelyn Jane King was discovered in the bushes off the Golden State Freeway
She had gone missing on November 9, 1977,
She vanished while waiting for a bus
Only now is when the hillside strangler task force is formed
The body of 18 year old buisness student Lauren Wagner was discovered
Her car was left across the street from her home, the door ajar.
a neighbor saw the abduction and identified the offenders as two males
Kimberly Martin, 17, is found in a deserted lot near city hall
The body was visible from police HQ
A helicopter pilot spotted an orange Datsun off a midway abandoned down a cliff of the Angeles Crest Highway
She was a student and part-time waitress
Described as “shy” and “innocent”
On January 11th 1979, Karen and Diane were offered $100 to housesit by a man named Kenneth Bianchi
Instead he strangled them both
- Upon his arrest his license and record are pulled and Washington police realize his address matches two of the Strangler Victims
After identifying Bianchi as a participant in the murders, they search his home. The search produces jewelry that matches items worn by Kimberly Martin (Victim #9) and Yolanda Washington (Victim 1).
He then confesses
Kenneth Bianchi is born to an alchoholic mother who puts him up for adoption
- He is adopted by the Bianchis as an infant
- The adoptive mother described him as a “compulsive liar”
- Diagnosed at 5 with petit mal seizures
- Also had an involuntary urination problem in youth
- He Diagnosed with Passive-Aggressive personality disorder at 10 in 1961
- IQ measured at 116 at age 11
- He was an underachiever in school
- Described as "working below capacity" and "lazy"
- Bianchi’s adoptive father died in 1964
- Bianchi was said to have had showed no remorse or grief
He drifted through menial jobs
- He often stole from his jobs
He married his high school gf after graduating from HS
- She leaves him after 8 months
Alphabet murders (71-73)
3 girls were kidnapped, assaulted, and killed in Rochester NY
He was a suspect in the murders because he worked near the murder scenes and drove a car similar to the offender
Dropped out of college after 1 semester
- Tried to study psychology, he wanted to be a cop.
He even confesses to a girlfriend that he is a suspect and has killed someone, she doesn't take him seriously
Kenneth Bianchi moves to LA to live with his cousin Angelo Buono
Angelo Buono is born in Rochester, NY
At 14 he is already bragging about assaulting girls
When he is 5 his family moves to California
At 16 he drops out of school, he is then arrested for larceny multiple times
At 21 he gets a 17-year-old girl Pregnant then immediately leaves her.
Mary divorces him in 1964
He gets his girlfriend Mary Castillo Pregnant
They have 5 Children together from 1956-1962
She has tried to leave him at multiple points, She only finally left after he threatened her with a gun.
He ends up getting arrested and jailed multiple times during this period for things like theft.
He allegedly raped his daughter when she was 2.
After Mary Castillo he meets Nanette Campina and they eventually get together around 1965
Nanette gives birth to his 7th and 8th child in 1967 and 1969
Somewhere between 1972 and 1975 his roommate catches him masturbating to school children with binoculars
In 1967 Angelo is arrested for stealing cars and sent to prison for 1 year
In 1971 Nanette flees the state with her children after he sexually abuses her 14-year-old daughter and encourages his sons to do the same
Bianchi gets a job with the California land title company, he eventually loses this job because they find Cannabis in his desk.
Bianchi Applies to multiple police departments, rejected from all
During this time Bianchi meets a girl named Kelli at his job, they start dating and eventually she gets pregnant
Bianchi also Tries to fake a psychology degree and become a psychologist, it doesn’t work out.
After Bianchi loses his job and they go broke Buono has the idea to become pimps...
The cousins decided on Kidnapping 2 girls and forcing them to be their prostitute
They Kidnapped two teenagers, Sabra and Becky and held them hostage in Buono's home
Spears met a lawyer and he helps her escape and leave the state
Given confidence by Becky's escape Sabra escapes as well
They impersonated police officers and kidnapped another young woman and put her where the previous girls were held
When they discovered the list Noble gave them was fake they flew into a rage and tried to find her, they found Yolanda instead
They bought a “trick list” from a prostitute named Deborah Noble. Noble her friend and Yolanda Washington delivered the list to Bianchi and Buono.
Angelo Buono is arrested for his involment in the Hillside Stranglings
Both are eventually sentenced to life
Bianchi attempts to put on an insanity defense, it doesn't work

Gang rape: 1 victim multiple offenders
While women most often are attacked by strangers, almost every male rape involves a friend or acquaintance
Serial Rapists: one who offends multiple times
Psychological Abnormality
Evolutionary: Rape is an instinct meant to perpetuate the human race
Social learning
Male socialization: Some men have been socialized to be agressive with women
"the unlawful killing of another human being"
Intimate partner murder:
- the most likely victim when a woman kills is her intimate parter (40%)
- About 10% of murders commited by men

First Degree Murder

Voluntary Manslaughter
Involuntary Manslaughter
Spree Killers: their killing is not confined to a single outburst, they don't have a "cooling off' period between murders, or return to their "normal" identities in between killings.
Includes Serial Killers, Spree Killers, and Mass Murderers.
Serial Killers
Mass Murder: The killing of four or more people, by 1+ assailants, in 1 event. (Includes many shootings)
Some killers are Sadistic, meaning they enjoy the pain and fear of their victims
Someone who kills 3 or more people in 3 or more events
