This is a election to decide who will be the singular candidate from each party running in the true presidential election.

These start around Feburary and could last for up to a few months.

This is done either using a election or a caucus.

Super Tuesday is one day a year in which 14 different states all hold their primaries on the same day.

Caucuses are a system of voting used in Iowa, Nevada, North Dakota and Wyoming in which people are all brought to a big room and make decisions for a overall count that decides the votes for the state.

This is a large party for all of the candidates for the presidency where the winner of the primaries is announced,

-Candidates select and announce their running mate

This is the election for the general public, that decides who becomes the next president. To be eligible to vote, you must be 18, registered, living in the US, and living in your precinct for 30 days.

Where Can You Vote?

- If voting on election day, you must vote at your designated polling place

- If you can't make it to your polling place, you can register for absentee/ mail-in voting, and send your vote through the mail

- If you want to vote early, you can register for early voting, and vote up to 40 days early at a designated place in your area.

Election Day is held on the first Tuesday in November after the first Monday in November in order to maximize voter turnout.

Electoral College

The electoral college is a system of voting used to give power to less populated states. The winner of the popular vote does not ultimately determine who the president will be.

- There are a total of 538 electoral votes

- For a candidate to win, they must get 270 of the electoral votes.

-Most states use a winner-takes-all system, where the popular vote gets all of the electoral votes for that state. The only two states that don't use this system are Maine and Nebraska

Reapportionment

Reapportionment

Reapportionment is the changing in the number of electoral votes each state has after a cencus. The changes give more or less ower to the states changing, allowing more power towards one party or another.
