Basketball started in Springfield, Massachusetts by a Canadian PE teacher named James Naismith. It was in the winter of 1891-1892. They made the game because they were bored after their football season ended. Word of the new game spread fast. It was an instant success. The first rules were in a newspaper. There are 13 rules.

Luckily basketball is pretty simple
The most important part of basketball is shooting and dribbling. Second you have to be dribbling at all time unless you pick it up you either have to pass or shoot. To shoot you have to pick up the ball and try to get the ball in the basket every basket you get 2 points or 3 if you shoot from a certain distance. Each game is divided into sections and and each game has a halftime. In the pros quarters are twelve minutes long. If the score is tied at the end of the last quarter then overtime periods of random lengths are played until someone wins. Fouls are illegal moves in basketball here are some hitting,pushing,holding and slapping.Three free throws are given if the player is fouled while shooting for a three-point goal and they miss their shot. If a player is fouled while shooting a three-point shot and makes it anyway, he is given one free throw.
