Hi, our names are Tava, Analee, Granite, and Jack. We decided to do Polio awareness for our 80/20 project because not a lot of people know what Polio is, and we feel that we are just so close to eradicating Polio.
A universal disease that attacks your spine and eventually paralyzes your body, making it incapable of moving.
Continuous positive actions promotes progressive change throughout our planet.
Our driving questions are:
How can we as biochemists help eradicate Polio for the future of our youth?
How can we as scientists study the working of Polio on communities and help raise awareness for the places affected by Polio?
How can we as a planet create a safer place to save those who are easily affected by Polio?
80% of the time teacher driven
20% of the time student driven
Some of the things we researched were how Polio spreads and works and we found out that Polio spreads through infected water and food. Polio can not spread very fast anymore for polio is only in Nigeria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. So you have a 0 percent chance fo contracting Polio
We interviewed all of 4th grade and only 14% of the people we interviewed knew what Polio was. And yes, that includes teachers.
Our interview was with John Angst from Durango Daybreak Rotary. He was a huge help!!! Thank you John Angst!!!! We appreciate all your help!!!
Our action is currently in progress. We are doing a fun run/ website to help eradicate/raise awareness for polio. The fun run will take place on the 16 of may at 10:00-1:00 the entry fee will be $5. We will be serving lemonade and water.
You may be wondering what the sugar cubes were for. They were for how kids would take OPV (oral polio vaccine). Because OPV tasted bad they had to put it on sugar cubes.
