What is UDL?

Universal Design for Learning

The Universal Design for Learning is a framework which aims to imporve and optimize learning for all students.

Introduction

Problem Statement

There are three main principles to UDL. There is engagment, representation, and Action and Expression.

Engagment

UDL calls for us to allow for multiple means of engagment. Every student enages with content in a different way, and our cirriculm should be built to allow that. We can do this by promoting studnet interest, allowing studnets to build sustaining effort and persistence, and self regulation.

Engagment

Represenation

By providing multple means of representation in the classroom, we give studnets multple options to interact with the information. We can do this through displaying information differently, using language and symbols, and providing different options for comprehension.

Representation

Action and Expression

It is also very important to allow for students to express themselves in different ways. We can optimize access to tools and assistive technologies, and allow for multple means of communication. We must also respect appropriate goal setting and sypport developent.
