What do you see?
The template provided by GCU has FOUR elements on the title page:
Please note that the lines are double spaced (no extra spaces before the date, please!). It is in an APA approved typeface and font (Times Roman or Courier 12pt).
In the upper left corner there is a running head.
APA format for running heads is as follows
Please note what is in caps and what is not.
In the upper right corner, these is a page number (no period).
Students frequently ask me why I care about title pages. 'Why? I'm here for a MSN not to learn about title pages and APA.'
This is a good question. Almost all universities have policies about formatting. It is part of scholarly writing which is an MSN requirement. For this program, APA* formatting is required (this is standard in nursing programs in the USA) and GCU requires a specific title page.
The short but not very polite answer is that it is the rule.
*GCU uses a simplified version of APA. The handbook for this is available from the link immediately above the link for the APA withou abstract template in the Writing Center. I suggest you download and/or print a copy. You will need it for every class in this program.
Important points:
1. Unless directed otherwise, all GCU assignments are to be submitted with a title page in the correct format for all courses in the MSN program.
2. In some assignments in the MSN program, the correct format for the title page is part of the grade.
3. It is GCU policy.
4. If you consistently do not have your title page formatted correctly, I will return your paper as incomplete and the GCU late poicy will go into effect (-10%/day assessed at midnight). I will warn you first. ***Rarely have I had to do this.
